Maintenance Tip of the Week

L

Rotating your tires helps to distribute tire wear evenly and ensures that you’ll get the maximum road life out of them. The first rotation is especially important.Your owner’s manual should specify both rotation period and pattern. If not, rotate your tires every 6,000 to 7,500 miles (9,700 to 12,000 km) — your tire dealer should know the correct pattern of tire rotation.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray C7 by Hennessey

Chevrolet-corvette-s_600x0w

Shortly after its official unveiling, the seventh-generation Corvette has already received its first upgrade package. To no one’s surprise the announcement was made by the American tuner, Hennessey, who reported that the upcoming kit can be applied for both coupe and convertible version.

The standard Stingray delivers a total of 450 horsepower, but that’s not enough for Hennessey, as its engineers have developed two kits for the soon-to-hit-the-market `Vette. In the first kit, the tuner will install a supercharger system that will increase the Stingray’s output to an impressive 700 horsepower. A second kit includes a twin-turbo system that will increase the Stingray’s power to somewhere between 800 and 1000 horsepower.

We’re not too sure how Hennessey managed to get a hold of a Stingray to install these parts and test it. We think it’s safe to say that these are just estimates that will be tweaked in the future.

Along with the engine upgrades, each package will also include: cold air induction systems, a new cat-back exhaust system and stainless steel long-tube headers. In order to handle the extra power, Hennessey will also add a new set of wheels, a Brembo brake system and an upgraded suspension system.

Chevrolet SS Makes History at Daytona

2013-chevrolet-ss-nascar-36
Chevrolet kicked off the Daytona 500 with outstanding performances from Team Chevy race teams and the all-new Chevrolet SS race car.  Five of the six top pole positions will be racing Chevrolet SSs for the Great American Race set for Sunday, Feb. 24.

Danica Patrick made history on Sunday behind the wheel of the No. 10 GODADDY Chevrolet SS, winning the pole for the 55th running of the Daytona 500. Four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) champion Jeff Gordon powered the No. 24 Drive to End Hunger Chevrolet SS to second in the final order, giving the all-new Chevrolet SS the front row.

“We are so proud of Danica Patrick, Tony Gibson and the entire Stewart-Haas team on putting the No. 10 Chevrolet SS on the pole for the 2013 Daytona 500," said Jim Campbell, U.S. vice president Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. “Danica was focused and drove a great line to secure the pole. She gave tremendous credit to her entire No. 10 team for this accomplishment. She is a determined racer, a team player and we're proud to have her on Team Chevy.

“It is also great that three-time Daytona 500 champion Jeff Gordon will be on the outside front row with his No. 24 Chevrolet SS. It was a proud moment for us yesterday when Jeff drove the all new Chevrolet SS production car into the Daytona Fan Zone for its public reveal. And, today he qualified on the front row of the Daytona 500 for the fourth time in his career.

The new Chevrolet SS production car will pace the Daytona 500, leading an all-Chevrolet front row to the green flag.

Patrick's accomplishment marks the first time in the 64-year history of the NSCS that a woman will lead the field to the start of the Great American Race. Patrick’s lap of 45.817 seconds – 196.434 – proved to have staying power as the remaining of the cars made their qualifying runs.

Team Chevy drivers who captured five of the top six qualifying positions were: Ryan Newman, No. 39 Quicken Loans Chevrolet SS (fourth); Tony Stewart, No. 14 Bass Pro Shops/Mobil 1 Chevrolet SS (fifth), and Kasey Kahne, No. 5 Farmers Insurance Chevrolet SS (sixth), giving each excellent starting positions for Thursday's Budweiser Duel at Daytona Qualifying Races.

Other Chevrolet SS drivers in the Top 20 qualifiers were: Dale Earnhardt, Jr., No. 88 National Guard Chevrolet SS – 11th; Juan Pablo Montoya, No. 42 Target Chevrolet SS – 13th; Paul Menard, No. 27 Menards/Peak Chevrolet SS – 14th ; Austin Dillon, No. 33 Honey Nut Cheerios Chevrolet SS – 16th,  and Jeff Burton, No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet SS – 20th.

The first of the two ‘Budweiser Duel at Daytona Qualifying Races,’ which will determine order for the Daytona 500, is scheduled to start on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 2 p.m. EST. Live coverage will be provided SPEED TV, MRN Radio and NASCAR Sirius Satellite Radio Channel 90.

The 2014 Chevrolet SS production sedan will be available in the fourth quarter of 2013, with prices set closer to the on-sale date.  When it arrives in showrooms, the SS will join the Corvette and Camaro, whose combined sales have made Chevrolet America’s favorite performance brand for the last two years.

Maintenance Tip of the Week

Bodywork / paint

Keeping your paint finish in good condition

Only choose superior car detailing supplies to keep your car's interior and exterior like new. There are plenty of decent quality waxes and polishes on the market today and if the last time you waxed or polished your car was over a decade ago, things have changed considerably since then. The wax and polish compounds are far more sophisticated both in terms of protection from fading, the look of the finish, and the ease of application. For example Turtle Wax Ice gets rid of that old problem of white wax residue. Is a clean car a vanity thing? Partly, yes, but if you park under a tree where birds help repaint your car with recycled blueberries, that guck will come off a lot easier if it falls on a waxed paint job.
Tip: If you find a bird has pooped on your car, wash it off as quick as you can. There are compounds in bird waste that can damage most car paint jobs. If you leave it in the sun and the poop bakes on, you could end up with a dull spot in the paint.
Also: If you want to show your support for a cause, car magnets are better than bumper stickers. They don't damage the paint and are easy to move around and ultimately remove when the fad has passed.

Joe Flacco wins C7 Corvette along with MVP honors

Flacco_vette
As part of a longstanding tradition, the MVP of Super Bowl XLVII, Joe Flacco, quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens, was given a new car directly after the game and trophy celebrations. For 2013, that car is a 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, and it was presented to Flacco by Rick Flick of Banner Chevrolet, a dealership in New Orleans that was wiped out by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 before returning to prominence as the only Chevy dealer in Orleans Parish.

Last year, Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning took home a 2012 Corvette GS Centennial Edition. Manning also won in 2008, when he selected a Cadillac Escalade Hybrid as his reward. In 2011, quarterback Aaron Rodgers accepted the keys to a Camaro convertible.

Though we're most definitely an auto-obsessed group, we did watch the Big Game along with nearly everyone else in America. And we've gotta say, as if winning the Super Bowl and receiving the Tiffany-designed Pete Rozelle Trophy wasn't enough for the multi-millionaire MVP athletes, a brand-new C7 seems like an awfully generous prize.
